Described as the first human-centered, enterprise-ready system of cloud connected furnishings, the system - called "Live OS" - is offered as a way to "enable the workplace to more deeply engage with people." In addition to the furnishings, the subscription-based Live OS includes an app and a dashboard that provide users with data-based insights into employees' needs and activities.
“With decades of experience in human-centered design, we're introducing services like Live OS, to help our customers create workplaces that empower, energize and perform," says Greg Bylsma, President of Herman Miller North America.
Live-equipped desks feature sensors that are continuously connected to the cloud using a secure cellular network. The desks are able to sense people and send anonymized real-time on desk utilization to the cloud, as well as respond to users in new ways.
For example, the company's sit-to-stand desk remembers preferred postures, allowing the user to tap a control to automatically have it adjust to a saved position. Like many fitness wearables, the desk can also light up and vibrate as a reminder to change positions.
According to Ryan Anderson, the company's Director of Commercialization for Live OS, "With the data insights captured through Live OS, organizations can better measure and manage workplace strategy to optimize real estate usage and improve employee experience. Our initial testing indicates that employees using Live sit-to-stand desks have become more active, transitioning between sitting and standing six-times as often as previously recorded."
The Live OS system is initially available in the North American market as part of a suite of services within the companys Living Office workplace.
