New Google DIY AI kits make getting started easier
Google (Mountain View, CA) has announced new versions of its do-it-yourself (DIY) artificial intelligence (AI) kits.

Launched last year, Google's AIY Projects are a series of reference kits aimed at do-it-yourself artificial intelligence for makers. The original two kits - a Voice Kit and a Vision Kit - have been redesigned, says the company, to help educators integrate AIY into STEM lesson plans and help prepare students for the challenges of the future.

Both kits have been redesigned to work with the new Raspberry Pi Zero WH computer board, which comes included in the box, along with the USB connector cable and pre-provisioned SD card. Now, says the company, users will no longer need to download the software image and can get up and running faster. The updated AIY Vision Kit v1.1 also includes the Raspberry Pi Camera v2 .

In addition, an AIY companion app for Android, available in Google Play, has been introduced to make wireless setup and configuration easy. The kits still work with monitor, keyboard, and mouse as an alternate path, and the company says iOS and Chrome companions will be coming soon.

The AIY website has also been refreshed with improved documentation, making it easier for young users to get started. Also included is a new AIY Models area, which
