Minima to offer NXP's CoolFlux DSP in near-threshold form
Sub- and near-threshold voltage operation pioneer Minima Processor Oy (Oulu, Finland) has partnered with NXP Semiconductors NV (Eindhoven, The Netherlands) to combine NXP's CoolDSP intellectual property with Minima's sub-threshold operation IP for licensed use.

The CoolFlux DSP is already a low-power design of DSP and the agreement allows Minima to offer the CoolFlux in a yet lower power form enabled by Minima's dynamic margining technology. At the same time NXP gets to apply dynamic margining to its own CoolFlux DSP use.

Third parties will be able to license the near-threshold solution versions of CoolFlux DSP IP cores from Minima.

"Our CoolFlux DSP line of licensable IP cores is designed across the board for low-power applications and we expect further increases in energy efficiency using Minima dynamic margining IP to support a range of new applications," said Johan Van Ginderdeuren, NXP’s director of IP blocks licensing, in  statement issue by Minima.

The Minima dynamic margining IP combines near-threshold supply voltage operation with ultra-wide dynamic voltage and frequency scaling.

Toni Soini, CEO at Minima, said the combination of dynamic margining and CoolFlux would target a range of markets, including audio, microcontrollers, IoT, in-body medical and connectivity,

Minima Processors was founded in 2016 and has been funded by Aalto University, CFT Nordic Investment Center, Lifeline Ventures, VTT Ventures, and angel investors. Minima is a founding member of the RISC-V Foundation.
