Low-power MEMS mic tolerates overload
The unit has power consumption of 170μA and comes in a package measuring 4mm by 3mm by 1.2mm. This makes the MEMS microphone competitive with electret condenser microphones (ECM) for some applications.
Infineon has also developed a digital ASIC to complement its MEMS microphone die. Current consumption in its low-power mode is as low 110µA making it a good fit with the wearables segment.
The IM73A135 MEMS microphone will be available for the distribution market in March 2021. The new MEMS microphone ASIC for wearables will be launched by ‘Infineon-inside’ partners in the next months.
