Infineon's solution has already integrated the Bootstrap MOVE eSIM profile from Tata Communications. This enables device manufacturers to reliably and securely collect, move and manage IoT data worldwide. In addition, they no longer need to negotiate contracts with hundreds of local mobile network operators in different countries. Because Tata Communications works with more than 640 mobile operators worldwide, a single global agreement with that company is enough to network devices. The solution is suitable for smart metering and telematics solutions or fleet management, for example, where geographical boundaries are exceeded.
The eSIM complies with the 'Remote SIM Provision' specifications of the Mobile Communications Industry Association GSMA. The device or the entire fleet of devices can be completely remotely connected to the Internet via an online portal. The activation and configuration of IoT devices "over the air" is thus highly automated and offers added security when a large number of devices are to go online. Manufacturers can also select their mobile network operator according to the production, shipping and use of the devices and change them during their entire life cycle. This gives them more flexibility in selecting operators and data tariffs.
At the heart of the new eSIM solution is the SLM97 security controller from Infineon. The high-performance operating system complies with the GSMA specification eSIM M2M V3.2 and supports global coverage of 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, LTE-M and NB-IoT. Infineon's security hardware has been proven in SIM-based IoT applications since 2008. More than 200 million units have now been implemented worldwide.
