The software packages from ST, which are available free of charge, contain the resources developers need to comply with the relevant IEC and ISO specifications. ST's portfolio of more than a thousand STM32 devices and the STM8 microcontroller family, including the automotive-qualified devices of the STM8AF series, is characterized by a wide selection and affordability that, in the chip manufacturer's opinion, even more expensive special safety MCUs usually cannot compete with.
The STM8A-SafeASIL package contains the documentation required for automotive applications up to ASIL B. Suitable for use in an ISO 26262-compliant software development process, the package helps users to implement the software self-test library required by the STM8AF Safety Manual.
The X-CUBE-STL package, designed for industrial applications, has been certified by TÜV Rheinland according to IEC 61508 SC3 and, in conjunction with the condition of use of the Safety Manual, enables the use of STM32 devices for the implementation of safety functions up to Safety Integrity Level SIL-2 or SIL-3. X-CUBE-STL is immediately available for most STM32 variants. From the 4th quarter of 2020, packages will also be available for the STM32L5 series, the STM32H7 dual core devices and the STM32MP1 series.
