CIRCADIAN ZircLight holds the core intellectual property rights to LED lighting systems, eyewear and computer screen devices designed to alleviate the negative effects of artificial lighting in nighttime environments. It is developing high-quality, white light fixtures and backlighting that control bioactive light spectral wavelengths to maximize productivity during the day and prevent the harmful effects of light exposure at night.

The company’s technological developments are built upon research showing that exposure to light at night causes a disruption of brain neuroendocrine systems, including melatonin and cortisol rhythms. The research suggests that a myriad of health issues related to shift workers may be due to the night time light exposure during night shifts.

"We are developing a comprehensive set of smart, human-centric LED product solutions to provide the right light for human health, safety and productivity across the 24 hour day without changing colour temperature or dimming the lights. By working with partners such as Plessey, who are leaders in LED lighting and light sensors and controls, we are bringing a healthy revolution to how light is used during day and night," says Harish Rao, CIRCADIAN ZircLight’s VP Lighting Products.

Dr. Keith Strickland, Plessey’s CTO, says: "There are more benefits to LED lighting than just cost saving. The possibilities of integrated solutions is the future of solid state lighting, and Plessey is at the forefront of this revolution. We are excited to be a part of this project and believe the combined skillset will create a ground-breaking product.’"

The first range of the ZircLight products with Plessey’s spectrum-specific LEDs will be released in 2016.
