The “Optical In-Display Fingerprint Sensor” is designed to sit up to 1.6 mm below the surface of the display and to capture reflected fingerprints between and through the OLED pixels. According to the company, the sensor has less than a 0.002% false acceptance rate and less than a 2% false rejection rate.

The sensor is said to feature an “optical stack design” and software enhancements that ensure rapid capture of fingerprints under direct sunlight as well as under conditions of fingers becoming too dry or cold. The sensor is also claimed to work faster than conventional capacitive fingerprint readers.

The company says that its new sensor is being used in the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS and Vivo X21 flagship smartphones.
