Free commercial-grade RTOS offered to maker community

A provider of real-time operating systems (RTOSs) for embedded systems and the IoT, Micrium (Weston, FL) will launch its µC/OS for Makers program on February 23, 2016, which will allow makers and pre-revenue start-ups to use the commercial RTOS for free.

µC/OS for Makers allows designers to design-in Micrium’s industry-leading RTOS at no cost: It’s proven, reliable and comes with extensive documentation, sample projects, and support videos. The RTOS comes with certification to meet rigorous safety-critical standards for industries such as medical electronics, avionics and industrial products.

"The reality is that many projects start in people’s homes or pre-revenue organisations where ideas are plentiful but financial resources are not," says Jean Labrosse, president and CEO of Micrium. "Micrium was founded because of my own frustrations with the RTOSs available and a desire to bring clean, well-documented and high-performance software to the embedded industry. Offering our proven, commercial RTOS at no cost for makers and startups is a natural extension of our commitment to quality and training that has long guided our organization."

The program includes Micrium’s µC/OS-III RTOS kernel and µC/TCP-IP, µC/USB-Host, µC/USB-Device, µC/MODBUS and µC/FS embedded systems components. Micrium’s µC/Probe graphical visualisation tool for embedded debugging is also available as part of the program.
