Bosch Sensortec, Arrow partner to serve IoT markets

Business news |
Arrow Electronics has signed a global distribution agreement with Bosch Sensortec to supply the latter’s products. Bosch, despite being one of the world’s largest provider of MEMs sensors, is traditionally stronger in the project business for large engineering customers than in selling its products through high-volume channels. Insofar, both companies complement each other very well.

Bosch has built on an initial base in automotive applications to expand its offering to consumer electronics markets and now provides a diverse portfolio of MEMS devices for the Internet of Things (IoT). Arrow, on the other hand, offers a broad range of IoT solutions, from component level through to complete secure, end-to-end deployable services.

Since 1995, Bosch has designed and manufactured over 8 billion MEMS sensors; the company holds more than 1000 patents on MEMS technology. Its in-house expertise is fueling a roadmap of products, together with supporting software and reference designs, that enable mobile and IoT devices to feel and sense the world around them. Bosch Sensortec is now offering its range of highly integrated sensor products to meet the requirements of IoT nodes for applications such as smart home and industry 4.0.

Arrow’s IoT portfolio includes a comprehensive range of hardware components, development platforms and software tools linked together by services to deliver the broadest available IoT offering. The company’s Things Evolved solutions includes specifying hardware, carrying out system integration for IoT, implementing the cloud data platform, maintaining the network and product life cycle management for assets that have reached the end of their operational life.

The Internet of Things: More consumer applications
than Bosch alone can cater to.

Together, Arrow and Bosch Sensortec will be pursuing opportunities for inertial, environmental and smart sensors in applications including wearables, smart home, building automation, industry 4.0, domestic robots, toys, augmented and virtual reality and drones. As multiple sensors are integrated into single devices and package sizes are shrunk to meet space requirements, Bosch Sensortec’s sensor data fusion software helps to optimize application performance. The software separates static and dynamic acceleration, compensates for 3D tilt, eliminates magnetic distortion and identifies rest position for sensor calibration.

As an early example of their collaboration, Arrow has featured market-leading sensors from Bosch Sensortec on Arrow`s newly announced ARIS EDGE board, an ultra-low power wireless sensor node solution based on the Renesas Synergy hardware and software platform, designed to accelerate developers proof of concept and significantly reduce time-to-market. The board features the Bosch BME280, an integrated environmental sensor that combines humidity, pressure and temperature measurement functions in a 2.5 x 2.5 mm² package; and the BNO055, the first in a new family of Application Specific Sensor Nodes (ASSN) implementing an intelligent 9-axis Absolute Orientation Sensor, which includes sensors and sensor data fusion in a single package.
